In the countryside of Honduras, agricultural monopolies are the only source of employment, and they pay their rural farmers so little that those Honduran’s can’t afford to get an education or leave their rural villages. As these monopolies dominate rural Honduras and pay these meager wages, they create a workforce that is trapped in the countryside with no ability to leave or seek other employment. And when the survival of Honduran’s entire family depends on the insufficient wages from these corporations, how can that worker speak out against his employer? In the end, the Hondurans are left isolated and decrepit, dying from malnutrition in a forced silence. The Honduran’s are robbed of their voice, but their forced silence cannot make them easy to forget. Hope in Honduras will not forget them, and we will not let injustice prevail. This organization has a mission: to use education as a way to bring a voice back to these neglected people.
Hope in Honduras is a non-profit organization that funds college education for underprivileged children in rural Honduras. We believe that by sponsoring education, we not only create an incentive to the families, but we are confident that the children who receive this education will grow to be capable adults who will return to their villages and help their old communities from the inside. But no movement can succeed without the people, and no mission can ever be accomplished without a unity of the masses. You have the power to unlock the potential of an entire nation, to give a generation of children a new opportunity, a deserved opportunity. You are the change. You are the new hope.
