Dear Umberto Fedeli, Honduran Children’s Rescue Fund, Gesu Church, and all the generous people of the Cleveland area:
I take this opportunity to send you all my love and gratitude to let you know how much I wish I could be there sitting among all of you, watching your smiling faces, listening to your beautiful voices, and probably telling you a few jokes...but for this time I can just feel happy for being able to send you this short but loving note.
When I look back in time on what you have already done for many of our needy Honduran people, especially for our SAN children and beneficiaries, the first word that comes to my mind is “sponsor”. But it just doesn't sound right...let’s say “patron”, as in someone who believes in the artistic soul of others, but it still doesn't sound right. How about “guardian angels”? Now, it sounds better because a guardian angel is someone who looks after others and guides them through a path, that our Lord has traced for everyone. That’s right...I want to thank you all for being guardian angels to us, SAN, and all its projects, especially for the hundreds of young girls at Reyes Irene, for the thousands of sick people who get medical attention at Santa Rosa de Lima Clinic, and many, many other projects for unfortunate Honduran people. You all, through Honduran Children’s Rescue Fund, have devoted so much time, effort, and monetary means helping those who are in need, but also for those who see in you a light of hope and love.
I truly believe that helping others gives everybody the opportunity that many of you have experienced already, love in its purest form; not expecting anything in return but just by being able to share what our Lord has already provided for you.
We are so grateful for everything we have received for years from all of you, which has been a tremendous help in transforming real people’s lives. But we also feel like sharing something back. What about tons of prayers, love, smiling faces, and a little space for you to become a part of thousands of children’s hearts?
Dear all, may Lord Jesus and His Holy Mother Mary shine their blessings upon you and your loved ones and rest assured you will always be in my daily prayers.

Dear Friends of Sociedad Amigos de los Niños:
Once more I find myself looking up to the sky and thanking the Holy Providence for never abandoning me even in the hardest of times. This has been a very hard year; the political turmoil that started last June triggered one of my biggest fears: to not be able to care for my children and my employees because of the lack of funds. It has been a constant struggle with the government ever since; the money allotted to SAN by the government stopped and we have been moving heaven and earth in order to get at least some part of the funds to cover the most basic needs.
Is this a test from God? Is this a message from Him? Am I getting too old for this “job”? If it’s a test from God then it has made me stronger; if it’s a message then He is telling me that my faith is keeping me standing on my two sick legs; am I getting too old for this job?
You tell me…43 years of ups and downs, thousands of lives rescued from the streets and other horrible and unmentionable places; having been called the best and worse names; flowers and insults have been hurled at me; the majority of my children have become citizens in good standing but a few I just couldn’t reach out to. I haven’t had a perfect life but I never expected to. I was, I am and I will always be an instrument of God and only He decides what will happen to me and this labor of love.
Up until recently I feel that He and our Holy Mother the Virgin Mary have walked next to me but I now can feel their voices saying to me “slow down, it’s time you start transferring responsibilities to those you trust the most.” And I have.
SAN now has an Executive Committee made up of people I have known my whole life; little by little I am delegating the responsibilities that for so many years sometimes I carried joyously and other times became a cross to bear. It would make me very happy that you accept and learn to love them as much as you have loved me.
All I can say is thank you…thank you on behalf of the children who now have a chance to feel loved; a chance to an education; a chance to leave behind a sad life. Thank you for all the young girls who can abandon domestic work; for the all young boys who come from far away hoping to improve their lives and their families’ lives by acquiring and education.
And my personal thank you…for believing in what I do because without your support this would be a very heavy cross to carry. All my love to you and may our Lord and our Holy Mother shine their blessings upon each and every one of you.

Dear Honduran Children’s Rescue Fund:
It is my pleasure to write to you all and send you my blessings and thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the children of Honduras. As you all may know, about two months ago, we had the transference of mandate to a new government in order to continue democracy, justice and peace in Honduras. So far we have been fortunate enough to relatively live peacefully; there will always be those who want to create chaos but that's normal in any society. If we lived in a perfect society, then this would be Eden. But Honduras, although economically poor, has the most beautiful natural sites and most important peace loving people. I fight for the right to be free, for peace and justice because those are the legacies I will leave to my children and what I want to be remembered by most.
I want to thank Mr. Umberto Fedeli for hosting this event for he's a man whose empathy has allowed him to see into the eyes of those in need...I believe that God has placed him in our path as a guiding light so we follow his example.
To Honduran Children Rescue Fund all my love and appreciation for you know that SAN is already a part of you and you are a part of me; without you, we wouldn't be complete. I can't wait to see you all...this is your house and the doors as well as my heart are always open to you.
All my love,
Sister Maria Rosa Leggol, OSF 8/21/2009
